Dear Colleagues,

Please mark your calendars for the
Global Symposium on Engaging Men and Boys in Gender Equality to be held in Rio de Janeiro, March 29-April 3, 2009. This event will bring together 400 participants worldwide working on policy development, program development and applied research related to men, boys, gender equality and masculinities. The four-day event includes:

- A one-day meeting of international colleagues implementing the White Ribbon campaign.
- Keynote and breakout sessions on: Violence Against Women; Masculinities, Violence and Post-conflict Settings; Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking; Homophobia, Sexual Diversity and Discrimination; HIV/AIDS; Mental Health and Substance Use; Maternal Family Care; Fatherhood; Work- life Balance; Men and Caregiving Work.
- A dialogue with the women’s movement on collaboration and partnerships.
- An analysis of current advances in policy development to engage men and boys in gender equality.
- A presentation by key policymakers from Brazil, Canada, Norway, South Africa, Sweden and elsewhere
