What type of organization is Promundo?
Promundo is a Brazilian NGO (non-governmental organization) with the legal status of OSCIP (Civil Society Organization for Public Interest). The institution was founded in 1997.
What is Promundo’s mission?
Promundo’s mission is to promote gender equality and prevent violence against women, children and youth in Brazil and around the world.
How does Promundo carry out its work?
Promundo prioritizes the production, dissemination, and scale-up of social interventions that promote gender equality and health. Our interventions are grounded in formative research and rigorous impact evaluations.
Many of our interventions also include the development of educational curricula for working with youth, health professionals, care-givers, and others. These curricula are available for download on our website.
Which specific themes does Promundo address?
Promundo’s research, programs and advocacy address the rights of children and adolescents, young women’s empowerment, the eradication of violence against children, youth and women, and the participation of men in sexual and reproductive health and violence prevention.
What types of partnerships does Promundo establish?
Promundo carries out activities in partnership with other NGOs through national and international campaigns and networks. Promundo has also collaborated with governments aiming to influence the integration of a broader gender perspective in public policies in Brazil and in other countries. Furthermore, Promundo works with various multilateral organizations such as the UN and World Bank to produce literature reviews, situation analysis reports, and advocacy instruments for these organizations in their respective areas of work. Promundo also works together with both national and international foundations, looking to maximize the impact of actions and programs in areas of common interest.
How is Promundo governed?
Promundo is governed by a Board of Directors and a Fiscal Board, both of which are subordinate to a General Assembly. The Co-Executive Directors and team perform the executive functions.
Materials
How can I obtain Promundo’s materials?
Promundo’s educational materials and reports are available for download on the website. Clips of our videos are also available for viewing on the website. Hard copies of the manuals and videos can be purchased through our on-line store (for delivery in Brazil only) or by contacting us by telephone or e-mail loja@promundo.org.br
Does Promundo authorize the reproduction of its materials?
Yes. Promundo and its partners reserve the rights of publication, however, materials can be reproduced as long as the source is cited.
Trademark Identity
In what situations should the Promundo logo be used?
If your organization undertakes a project or event that involves a formal partnership with Promundo, all published works (including folders, websites, brochures etc.) should contain the Promundo logo.
If your organization uses technical materials developed by Promundo in the development of other materials or publications the original Promundo document should be cited. Promundo’s logo could also be inserted in the publication or other materials.

Does Promundo currently have any openings?

Does Promundo offer volunteer opportunities?
Promundo offers volunteer opportunities for both Brazilians and foreigners. Applicants must have sufficient academic background, experience in research and implementation of public health programs, as well as excellent writing and research skills. Volunteers should be able work independently, as well as be familiar with issues related to gender and health. Applicants must be willing to work at least 20 hours a week at Instituto Promundo and those applicants with greater availability will receive preference.

- A statement of intent indicating your specific area(s) of interest and experience, what you expect to gain from the experience, and your availability/schedule.
- Resume or CV in Spanish, English, or Portuguese.
- A writing Sample between 3 and 5 pages demonstrating your analytical skills (can be in Spanish, English, or Portuguese).
- Three references ‐ please provide us with names and telephone numbers of three people with whom you have worked or professors who know you well enough to accurately describe your qualifications.
