Annual Report 2013
Promundo
In 2013, Promundo collaborated with the World Bank in an in-depth analysis of the results of the IMAGES study (International Men and Gender Equality Survey, in English), which has already been carried out in more than 10 countries, together with the International Center for Research on Women and other partners.
Based on an understanding of what contributes to violence and, not least, what contributes to care and non-violence, Promundo is working together with its partners to adapt and scale up effective programs and approaches, aiming to address the structural vectors of violence.
In Rwanda, we work with the Ministry of Health to reach men through prenatal visits and promote their positive involvement in children's lives and their own health. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, we have collaborated with community organizations to recover families from conflict-related trauma, including those associated with sexual violence.
In Brazil, Promundo has worked with the Bolsa Família program – which provides income transfers, especially to women, benefiting more than 14 million homes – to promote men's support for women's economic empowerment and children's development.
At the international level, we have carried out political advocacy actions together with partners around the post-2015 Millennium Development Goals, with a view to promoting the global goal for men to carry out half of the world's unpaid care work. We are still working to adapt and scale approaches that we know work to engage men and boys in reducing violence against women.
We are motivated by our convictions, based on research that confirms the benefits for women, men and children of men embracing new versions of what it means to be a man.
